lol stupid thread name i know buttttttttttt thats just half.
i started building the reverse trike and am starting a$s forward (back to front)
made the rear wheel and how to mount it after staring at the rear end of this mini bike for half an hour. heres what i have done.....
dirty wheel i know i got kind dirt happy the other day...:bannana:

thats a tiny chain...and sprocket.

SAWBLADE DISCBRAKE FTW.
Thats actually a neat idea! some sawblades are slotted too.
Looks like you have a way small sprocket though.
That ought to be on your drive side rather than your wheel.
Rotore

chain and sprocket are just for fitment purposes and thats not the chain i'll be using.
thats a 20T sprocket i'll probably use a 38t as kapt suggested or 40t. and the chain fits the engine sprocket perfectly so atleast now i know i need a #41 chain. HAHA killed three birds with 4 hours. :p
and thanks raywelder lol works pretty well

heres a diagram of the wheel setup for anyone else building a reverse trike.
if any questions feel free to ask.

rigid or softtail?
Raywelder
07-04-2009, 02:13 PM
Go softtail!
You might need a bigger sawblade too

I've always had the idea of using those big 12" saw blades and grinding the teeth to fit a chain.

Me too when I was younger at least,
I could never find a blade with the right teeth spacing,
Its way easier to just get a regular sprocket lol.
Although they seem like they would make a decent rotor.

Are you going to go all out and make the front wheels tilt and all that jazz.

soft

it can be done they do have some real beefy blades atleast .5 wide at lowes

yup and i'm still working out the frame since i want a shorter chassis. looking into using both of those 18x9.5" tires together and mounting the engine over them.

Thats gonna be WIDE.
Rotore
07-05-2009, 04:15 PM
yup 19" wide but its not definate so i might just go with one. but the engine sitting over the wheels is gonna look kinda cool.
heres a rough sketch of what i was talking about
Kaptain Krunch

I wouldnt put the engine over the wheels, you want the COD low, i would just put it in front.

hmmmm.... good idea but do they even make chains that long?

lol i know dude, if it was infront of the kart i'd be better off getting a car engine and drivetrain.

How long does it take to research one word? Shocks can be had cheap also, look for old sleds.
Rotore
07-06-2009, 03:59 PM
lol dude thats not the only thing i'm researching. i just thought since i'll be doing this i might as well go all out. and also i need the money to do that so i'll be saving up to buy good quality parts instead of the mock ups i make out of home depot.
Rotore

i kinda had a change of heart since i've been pissed all day so i need to entertain myself so i dont do anything stupid.
SOOOOOOOOOO heres what i have done so far, spindal setup is no welds. and the rear axle setup is going to be using some bearings i jus need to fab up a housing to mount them.
but since i dont have access to a welder when i need it i used joints to give the frame its shape and yes it will be all welded together before i start driving it around.
PICS!!!!!!!
and as always open to opinions...

Bearings Not Bushings

07-07-2009, 02:56 PM
i get the names confused but you know what i mean
Kaptain Krunch
07-07-2009, 04:10 PM
Oh, i thought you were actually using bushings, i was just saying not to use bushings, and that bearings were better.

lol sorry bout that dude :p, but hows it look so far?
Kaptain Krunch
07-07-2009, 05:40 PM
Looks pretty good, definitely gonna have to weld up those joints tho. And maybe cover the seat. That frame must be costin you some serious $$$ that black pipe is like $12 a piece isnt it?
Rotore
07-07-2009, 06:45 PM
not really i got the joints for $1 piece and 2 black pipes 56" for $15 and 4 more 12" for $10... i just spent $36 but the bearings wear $10 a pop.
and i have the seat cover i just need to get rid of that rust
Kaptain Krunch
07-07-2009, 06:51 PM
Thats not too bad. What kind of steering angles are you gonna give it?
Rotore

really dont know lol i copied the spindles off the riding mower.

Hey man that is going to be the ****!
If you double those tires up your going to have a A** ton of traction!
One word of advice though, I used install alot of black Iron gas pipe and I found the threaded portion of the pipe is very weak. Make sure you weld over all the thread because It'll snap on you. Then you'll be saving for hospital bills! lol!

what do you mean double the tires? in the rear?
i think it'll have some nice traction with the way the front end is setup i just need to lower the rear 2-2.5 inches. and thanks for the advice.

Two tires in the back is just more drag, and that engine you have isnt exactly the most powerful thing in the work, i'd go with single rear wheel. Plus it would make it easier to drift.
Rotore
07-07-2009, 07:59 PM
yea until i can find a bigger engine like a 600cc+ i'll stick to single tire. but when i do get a bigger engine i'll use a racing slick that i have in my room as a night stand.
jr dragster Tyler
07-07-2009, 08:58 PM
Lol when you try to put a 600cc engine+ in it your going to need more then a racing slick and a gas pipe chasis dude!

of i know that it'll all get reinforced and a full roll cage and suspension will get added

i'll be going to the junk yard a friend told me about to find a bigger sprocket something between 60 and 72, bearings of a toyota tranny, and a bigger seat if i can find one small enough if that makes sense, a steering rack off a small car and get the frame welded all together.
i have pics and a few questions if you guys dont mind.
*can i mount the seat over the engine so the engine sits 3.75 inches off the ground?
*can i re-mount the carb so it sits lower?
EagleTalons
07-08-2009, 11:03 PM
Personally I wouldn't want the engine that close to the ground. But yes you could do it. If you do, put a skid plate.
Also for the carby. Take a hacksaw and cut the manifold in half or where ever it pleases you. Then get some radiator hose that fits around the manifold and use it to make a curved manifold so you can put the carby where ever it pleases you.
Here is an article on it.
Rotore
07-09-2009, 12:12 PM
thanks i thought i was going to have to cut and weld a new manifold.
and the reason i ask was because i was told that i need the engine to sit as low as possible.

Just leave the carb stock, no point in lowering it. You do want the engine low, but it doesnt have to be that low.

Well definitely make a skid plate just incase, also make sure your seat mounts are strong, wouldnt want them breaking and you falling onto the engine. Also make sure it gets enough airflow, i had a shifter kart with the engine behind the seat, and the engine ran very hot.

also how do you make a skid plate?

Just make a steel plate, decent thickness, i'd say around 1/8" minimum, and put it under the engine, so that if it bottomed out, the skid plated would get hit instead of the engine.

Diamond plate aluminum would work well, and look good too, Just a little more expensive though..

Rotore
07-10-2009, 04:07 PM
its not? oh well but hey kapitain how would you moung the bearings on a 1" round tubing?
Kaptain Krunch
07-10-2009, 04:18 PM
Naa, diamond plate aluminum is not as strong as 1/8" steel.
What do you mean how would you mount them? like how would you get the axle not to slide? Locking collars work well.
The split collars hold better, but are more expensive than the 1 piece.

get pillow blocks, then its just 2 bolts each. Did you already buy the bearings? Pics?
Rotore

i got them from a frined who bought them for has corolla 5 speed tranny but they werent the right size...
Kaptain Krunch

Get a piece of pipe that they fit snugly in, and weld the piece to the frame. Would be easier to just get pillow blocks.

out of money but thanks. i'll post a pic of the mock up

its been i while but i saved up some money and bought a 50t sprocket and a 18" wheel w/ hub and the proper bearings plus a chain and muffler i'll take pics later
