I just picked up two more Karts today. Had to take the roll cages off both, broke most of the bolts, and put them almost on their sides to fit them in the back of my pickup.
They are Yerfdog's with 5.5 hp Tecumseh Power Sport engines.
They need cleaning up and need to be repainted.
One is missing the carburetor (anyone have one they would like to get rid of?), the other had the torque converter taken apart and now there are parts missing (anybody have any spare pieces, and parts?). The outer shell and the roller that goes in the center and the mounting bolt are missing.
So I pulled the torque converter off the one and put it on the one that has a carb. Pulled the bowl off the carb and drained the water out of it. Sprayed it out and put the bowl back on. I'll do a better clean up on the carb when it's light outside.
Shot some starting fluid in the carb and pulled it twice. Hmmm, nothing, Flipped the kill switch the other way gave it a pull and I heard the sound I was looking for. Shot it again, pulled and same nice sound.
So I know the engine will run. Tomorrow I will get some pictures, and put some fuel in the tank and see if it will haul my butt around the yard.
Whats a good way to get the rust cleaned off the drive and driven pulleys? This is the first time I have seen or owned anything with one of the torque converters. Everything I have ever had has used a centrifugal clutch.

wire brush and brasso is my favorite method (use a brush on a grinder)

This is a picture I found that looks like the 2 I just picked up.
Mine are in a bit rougher shape.
Anybody know what model this is?
Thanks
Norm

Thanks Bruce,
I already checked that but it didn't help.
The karts have no suspension, 5.5 Tecumseh's, 18x9.50-8 rear tires and 145/70-6 fronts.
Still looking for info on them.

Not sure if anyone cares, but, I got one of the karts up and running today. Had to swap the throttle to governor arm spring from one cart to the other, because it was also missing.
also had to adjust the arm because it was not opening the throttle hardly at all.
It does need new front tires as it doesn't turn very well with bald tires on the front. Also had to adjust one of the tie rods as one is bent and was toed out very bad. so I'll need to replace the one rod.

Just run it with em rusty, they will self clean. make sure you pull apart the driver pulley and pack it with grease.

Kaptain, I'll get some pics up when I get better internet service. They were suppose to hook it up today but the run from the road to the house was to far. He didn't have enough heavy cable.
I paid $200 for the two of them. What do you think?
The other 2 I picked up I paid $150. Those are fun kart speedsters with 3 1/2 tec's.
Kenny, We are running them rusty right now. I do need to grease the clutch and weld 2 spots on the frame.

My plan is to run them through the summer then tear them down repaint etc. over the winter.
I still need to find a torque converter, and rebuild the carb and find a spring for the throttle to governor arm. Also need New tires on the front of both and get the rears to stop leaking.

So I tightened the chain up the other day, it was so sloppy after oiling it and running it around. I lossened all 6 bolts and slid the engine and jackshaft back to snug it up. Ran the cart around for a while and ieverything was good. Then the cart wouldn't move at all as the belt was real loose. Is there a set distance from the center of the engine crank to the center of the jackshaft? I haven't looked, do the engine and jackshaft mount slide independantly? The plate for the jackshaft sits under the engine and I'm not sure if the holes in the jackshaft are slotted.

for $200, sounds like a great deal, especially with torque converters.
