you used gasoline?
if you want to make a mini version, get the refillable aerosol cans from Harbor Freight, then fill it with kerosene and use the fine mist nozzle lol.

For the guys, silicone carb cleaner works good, too. For the girls, those perfume atomizers make a pretty mean little purse-sized flamethrower - had a friend light one of those up in high school.
Of course, for the hot-rod guys, there's always these ....:

Oh man, you guys just took me down memory lane!
When my cousin and I were about 10, we were such major pyros! There was one time when he and I were playing with matches outside of my grandmas house when we heard her open the door so we quickly threw the matches into a spot of dry grass and stomped on it to put it out. When my grandma came out the door, she asked: "What are you guys doing?" "Looking for lizards!" Then she went back in the house. A few seconds later we heard crackling coming from behind us, the grass caught on fire!!! Then we REALLY had to stomp it out.
We would frequently make contraptions to light on fire and we were constantly getting in trouble for playing with fire.
Another time, I was supposed to light the barbeque. I completely soaked the charcoal briquettes (which already contained fluid) and took a match to it.....HUGE FIREBALL! Singed all the hairs on my arms and I think some of my eyebrows.
I went to El Salvador in December of 1999. Over there, fireworks are sold everywhere. One of my cousins and I bought a whole bunch of them, we opened them up, poured the gun powder into a large sheet of newspaper, put all the fuses together and made an about 2ft tall by 8-10in diameter firecracker. BOOM! That's all I gotta say about that.

dry grasses can light very easily, and if the conditions are right, they will burn very hot, and fast. i had an experience with that once... but it wasnt really my fault... i warned the guy the rocket engine was loose in the pinewood derby car, but he didnt listen!! lol

yes, this was a church group doing this loll
last March (when we do the pinewood derby) we made the crappiest car ever, then covered it in gas, lit it, then launched it! C engines put out the flames cause it accelerates so fast, but A and B engines are fun for the flaming cars!!
but this time we did it as far away from the grassy bush thing that went up the year before, and it was all on a wet parking lot, it just finished raining.... so it was pretty safe... kinda.... but it WAS lotsa fun lol

So you get a container of fuel... and put compressed air in it...
Nice.
A steel container with air-fuel mixture in it + fire = ...
Surely there is a less dangerous (to you) way to make a flamethrower.
TravisD
06-11-2009, 05:34 AM
wats so dangerous?
TravisD
06-11-2009, 05:54 AM
its probaly more safer than u think, see the fuel gets sucked from the bottom, so no air is comming out only fuel, and remember only the fumes are flamible so if the flame goes inside there are no fumes to burn and is stoped from all the liquid, and since its only fuel comming out it has to airate inorder to burn, thus giving u about 1-1.5meter of unlit fuel before its airated enough to combust, and plus u have 120psi flowing out so its pretty hard to get the flame to go back.
but becuase i said that, its STILL VERY DANGEROUS
kids dont try this at home
freakboy
06-11-2009, 07:21 AM
Then can we try it at your house?
THE HUNTER
06-11-2009, 11:11 AM
DUDE that is AWESOME!!! i added it to my favorites, and gave it a 5star rating!
wats so dangerous?
i think he meant that there is a flammable mixture in the container.... a compressed one at that.
but like you said, the liquid in the hose will stop anything from burning back.
but i would deff check the tank for any rust spots starting. and dont put water in it, that will only accelerate rust on the inside. you could put some oil (or WD-40 would be easier) inside and swirl it around every now and then to make sure it doesnt rust on you.
plus WD-40 will burn pretty good too. lol
i just had an air compressor tank spring a leak cause it rusted through... couldnt see any rust on the outside. so all of a sudden when i was in the garage i hear "pshhhhhh.." and look around for a leak in something (checking the acetylene tank first!! lol)
so if you have a leak unexpectedly start on your flame thrower there with some fuel in it... it could be bad... just dont want anyone to get hurt. (besides the stuffed lions that its) lol :)
TravisD
06-11-2009, 06:17 PM
Yeah each time im finished i will normaly spray some oil in there to stop it from rusting, and i check inside every now again to see if there is any rust at all and if i think its getting rusty or worn out i will just replace it  thanks for the tip tho,
THE HUNTER
06-11-2009, 07:25 PM
glad yer thinking ahead!
but where are you getting all these old fire extinguishers? lol, now i want one..
a fire un-extinguisher?? lol
but i made a mini version just a few mins ago.
a paint sprayer i found in the basement and fixed, plus some kerosene! its great for takin out those pesky weeds in the driveway cracks... if you dont mind black marks around them lol.
the compressed air mixes thoroughly with the fine mist of fuel... it burns pretty bright and doesnt make much smoke at all....
i wonder what would happen if i used compressed oxygen instead of regular air?....
im kinda scared to try
lol
i like kerosene cause its not as dangerous as gasoline. you can literally dunk a lit match in a bucket of the stuff, and it wont go up.
but if you spray it as a fine mist and THEN try to light it.... hehehe :devil2:
modelengineer
06-11-2009, 07:32 PM
Just watch out if the tank runs dry, since then you will be getting air fuel mix in the hose and there is a chance that it will run back through the hose and explode (and likely kill you). It's a slight chance, but it's your life, so...
THE HUNTER
06-11-2009, 07:53 PM
the air/fuel would be moving too fast, i wouldnt be worried about it too much...but yeah it is a possibility. especially if you for some reason loose some air pressure at the same time (it could happen, weirdness like that always does)
a steel screen in the nozzle would be good insurance to prevent any burn-back.
TravisD
06-11-2009, 08:28 PM
I get this fire un-extinguishers from some idiots that stole it from the shops and sprayed it at each other and when it ran out there thew it into the creak bank near the shop, I seen it a was like FREE fire un-extinguisher, but yea, and there are a lot of stupid people that just throw them out due to they don’t know u can refill them or some what, and when the tank runs dry the flame does out straight away, its like as if the flame gets blown out, and a good thing about this is that when u rapidly decompress the extinguisher you get condensation so just as soon as the tank runs dry it shoots some condensation(water) out,

idk if i mentioned it before, but it was originally for making a wall of flames in a theatrical production. it needed lots of regulating stuff for safety and all that lol.
ive shot fire outta my mouth before... by filling it with butane or propane, then "spitting" it out.
doesnt work as good as a liquid fuel though... and it tends to singe my stache.. lol

Having been carjacked exactly once in my life I can appreciate the last one and if it was a real concern today I'd buy one of those immediately (the under-car flame-thrower device)
I'm all for instant gratification and the instant irradication of violent criminals.
And no, the carjacker didn't take my truck. Unfortunately for him, he stood too close to the door when I opened it.

I have one. I also don't carry any longer since I have a curious 4 y/o in my house. Eventually I will again but for now, I find other methods of solving people problems.
Sometime I'll have to share the neighbor story involving trash, a woodchipper, and a convertible.

LOL.
When I bought the house before this one, I acquired it through a realtor specializing in bank-forclosed homes. After moving in, it came to light that the neighbor on one side was the son of the homeowner who lost her house to the bank, which I bought.
At first he was upset that I wasn't willing to sell the house back to his mom and responded by throwing trash over my fence. At first it was a few beer cans, a couple of banana peels, stupid stuff like that and I'd respond by throwing the items back over the fence.
Eventually this escalated to bags of kitchen garbage and when the bags hit the ground on my side of the fence the bags would spit open and make mess, and the rodents would pick it at night making the mess even bigger.
One day he and his cousin left the house, but he also left his "chop top" honda civic street racer in his driveway with the top removed, leaving the interior completely exposed. I only noticed this because I had just rebagged his kitchen garbage strewn throughout my yard and was placing it by his garbage cans in front of his house.
I had an idea.
I relocated my very large tow-behind wood chipper to the fence, and aimed the chute over the fence. I chipped a few sticks and made adjustments until the debris landed *in* his car.
I mowed the lawn and feed the grass clippings into the chipper. I chipped all the deadfall (dead fallen branches from the trees). I chipped my mulch pile which at this point was just a vast pile of leaves.
Now that it's mid-afternoon I debated putting the chipper away but I was having so much fun I couldn't resist the evil voices in my head.
I cleaned out my fridge, and chipped two gallons of about-to-expire milk, old meat I never cooked, old cold cuts, several slices of last night's pizza, and of course, the bottom shelf of week-old chinese food.
He want's home yet and I thought of one more thing to chip - almost a year's worth of newspapers and about two years worth of automotive magazines I've been saving for the next Boy Scout's paper drive.
Chip, chip, chip. While hauling newspapers and magazines from the back of the garage to the chipper I noticed several beat-up boxes in the corner with old circuit boards hanging out. Some of the boards were old ISA computer parts some I had no idea what they were from or for, so I chipped all of it, and the dilapitated boxes as well.
Once done, I relocated the chipper back to the side of the garage, and went inside.
Later in the evening, long past sunset, the police showed up though they never asked me outright if I knew what happened. Instead, they asked me if the "feud" was over to which I replied "It is until he dumps more trash over the fence." The police had been called at least once a week for the past six months so they knew the feud was going on for a long time.
I'm a firm believer in what I will call "retaliatory justice". Throw stuff on my lawn, I throw 10 times more back.

nice. very nice! he did start it. lol XD
i kinda guessed that shredding some trash and dumping it in the convertible might be what you did, but thats crazy! lol
i thought you were talking about a smaller residential style chipper, like you would get at Sears or w/e lol
so did he ever dump any more trash in your yard?
i know i wouldnt after that!
(of course i wouldnt to begin with, but you know what i mean lol)
yeah, if ppl just had any sense of justice at all, we prob wouldnt be in such a mess now. i think Texas has it right, if ya get what im referring to. lol

Heh-heh, I would have used that if that's what I had, but a while before all this happened I picked up a "free" commercial-sized wood chipper, the kind towed behind commercial trucks (i.e. not a pickup truck). It had a blown diesel 3-cyl and I swapped that out with a Buick V6 I had lying around for another project I never got around to so it was an "easy" repair in a sense. I had to re-drill the giant pulley that was on the diesel's crankshaft to fit onto the Buick's crankshaft and I couldn't get the setup of that job accurate enough on my lathe so I farmed that job out for $250, plus another $250 to rebalance the pulley (which was also the flywheel) to match the balance of the Buick V6.
What the diesel probably gave in torque I had in RPMs with the Buick, so it worked out just fine in the end. For an exhaust system I used the standard car manifolds with a standard y-pipe that I shortened and bent "upwards" and welded on a "purple hornie" glasspack muffler I had lying around.

No, but he did other things. He got himself a valve fork and turned off the water to my house once. Another time he broke my electrical meter on the outside of the house with a rock or brick and other things of that nature.
I retalitated each time, usually severely. I won't get into it because of that and you'll have to use your imagination ;-)
For me that property was an investment property - bought cheap, remodel quickly, sell for profit. I only lived there three years and gave me the down payment and some running cash when I bought this house a state away.
(of course i wouldnt to begin with, but you know what i mean lol)

The problem is actually one step before that, though I agree with your statement. The actual problem is people need to believe they are truly accountable for their behavior, and behave in such a manner that does not have negative consequences.
But that would require a global rewiring of the human mind so, we're left with "justice" and "punishment".
