Hey people of DIY Forum,
I am currently working on building a cart with an engine my father gave me some time ago. It is a Briggs And Stratton 303447 16 HP V-Twin OHV Vanguard. I have a few questions about the setup of this engine on my cart:

The only clutch I found that will handle the engine is the Mini Cup Clutch on www.heeters.com. I really do not wish to use a torque converter because i have the axel set up with a sprocket already and they seem to cost more. How will i install the clutch? Does anyone know if it will work with this engine? The first few inches of the shaft is threaded and I'm not sure if that will effect a keyway being cut or not. Does anyone know of any cheaper clutches?
To this day I am not 100% sure if this engine is horizontal or vertical mount. Everyone who has looked at it says it's the former, but I couldn't be too sure.
It has the electric start, however, I am not sure how to get that working... I know a battery is needed but how do i hook the battery up so the engine charges it? I have the key and the ignition wires with the keys.

If anyone could help me, i would greatly appreciate it. Im trying to get the axels and the engine mounted on before June 4th, because after that, I will not have access to a powerful welder. Also if anyone knows anything about the governors on this engine, I'd like to know if taking it off will harm the engine. I'd also kind of like some help in setting up the throttle cable.
If needed, I can supply photos within a day,
thanks

to find the mounting position and electrical info, you should look up the owners manual at the Briggs website.

i would have just given you a link right to the manual, but recently i havent been able to get any search results for model numbers like i used to, so i just sent a question to them about it, and it says i should get a reply within 3 business days...

you can try looking it up yourself if you like though, maybe it will work for you...

a good clue as to the mounting position is where the mounting holes are, and where the dipstick/oil filler is.

For a gear ratio you could easily run a 5:1 or 4:1. Also for the starter wiring this is how it should go. You will need a solenoid (3 pole is good), starter switch a push button will work fine, the battery, and 3 pieces of thick battery grade wire.

-Neg from battery to ground - thick wire
-Pos from battery to one of the large solenoid poles - thick wire
-Other large solenoid pole to starter - thick wire
-Small pole to switch, then other side of switch back to pos on battery
-Charging wire back to pos on battery, there should be two wires coming out from under the shroud, one should have what looks like a knot in it covered in shrink wrap tubing, that one is the charging wire (the knot is the diode).
