Weird...
I got given a full size chopper style bike (with a 360cc engine in it) & decided I won't put it on the road (too much hassle).
So I figured, I'd put a lawnmower engine in it & run it using a long 'vee' belt.
And use the engine in a gocart.
But,
wait for it,
Its got the exact same wheels & the exact same engine as yours!!

I'm now wondering if I should see whats involved in getting it on the road (with a full size engine) instead of making a 'funny bike' out of it.

the cvt will add soo much to this martyrcicle!
the look of a belt will rock. (like a primary drive on a occ bike.)
the extra bottom and top end will kick butt too.

gratz on the sproket!

gotta love teh pride and satisfaction you get from drilling a ton of holes and having your whole bench covered in curly-Q metal drill shavings (cant think of teh rite word...)

8"!!! dayyyy-ummmm that beats the :censored: out of my curly-Q record.
they should make :idea2: a guinness record for drill curlys!!! lolllz  good night all.

BAMBY

ok... that driver clutch confuses me everytime i look at it
where is the friction surface??? i cant see what rubs on what!
it surely cant be those metal round sticks coming out the sides of the center...???
sweet tho.

Kaptain Krunch
04-29-2009, 11:39 AM
Its not a friction clutch, its the driver of a torque converter, as rpms increase one side moves inward, forcing the belt up and changing the gear ratio.

BAMBY
04-29-2009, 02:55 PM
ohhhhh! i think i get it.

thanks kaptain krunch!

so are you saying that the 2 pulley sides arent even touching the pulley at idle, and then when the engine speeds up, THEN the sides squish together and lock up on the belt?
if anyone else was as dumb as i am... check out this youtube video,
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mgXKwikTwMk
it totally explains the way a torque converter operates!
also, later in the video, it shows the sides moving in unison while he revs it on a stand! (3:45) cool vid.

if im still wrong, please correct me! (not sure if 20series is like a snowmobile torque converter.)

EDIT:
wow, i just checked a schematic to see if i really understood it correct. I did!
torque converters are now WAYYY cooler now that i understand how the DRIVER works. (already understood the driven)

Kaptain Krunch
04-29-2009, 03:31 PM
yup your were exactly right, and all belt drive torque converters work on the same principal. Pretty cool huh, totally kicks centrifugal clutches ***.

Great build , can't wait to see it completed. Id play with some variations on making the frame a drop seat about 1.5-2in. set it back a bit. It would look even nicer with the handle bars set low also like underneath the top triple tre. You can sleeve the forks and weld the bars on the sleeves right underneath the top triple tree. I'll post a pic of what im talking about.

What bike are the wheels off of?
