After reading I seem to come up with more questions in my head than get answered so here goes:

13HP Honda GX390 with a Comet 40 that goes to a jackshaft. I have either a 14 tooth sprocket or a 10 tooth sprocket that will be on the jackshaft with the driven unit.

I'd like a balance of speed and torque but more emphasis on Speed. From what I understand...the LOWER the tooth count on my axle will increase my speed?

Anyone running a similar setup that can shed some light on it? Should I run the 10 or 14 tooth and what size sprocket for my rear axle?

Rear tires are 16.5 front are 15

Also curious about what brakes would be best. It had a band brake on it, but I'm not nuts about band brakes. I was thinking more along the lines of disc brakes...anyone have any recommendations?

Thanks!

I have used rear brakes of motorcycles, rear master cyl and caliper. Use a 7 or 8" go kart brake disc (ebay).

I have a 10hp motor with the comet 40 series. Its got a 10 tooth on the jackshaft to a 53 or 54 on the axle. Low end was great. Off road it did donuts and had to take off easy to get traction. Did about 40 mph id say... didnt have it long before i chopped it up for parts.
