got a question i have my sprocket welded on the hub and it has 2 set screws and a keyway but the axle has no keyway. how do i keep the hub from moving on the axle. I don't have a welder either.

you either crank down the set screws or mabe put a little hole in youre axel but i dont really reccomend that... you might want to consider finding a local machine shop to do it for you. im not sure how much it would cost though

is it a live axle, or a fixed axle? looked fixed to me.
and it's welded to the wheel hub, or a separate sprocket-only hub?
Kartmofo
02-28-2007, 08:16 PM
it's a live axle and the sprocket is welded to a hub that is mounted to the axle

i would either weld it to the axle (make sure not to tweak it... that it's perfect straight) or drill out a little divet for the set screws. I probably wouldn't run the set screw idea personally... just seems like they'd break. Welding is your best bet.

dispite the cold I have installed the new engine and put the chain on. I just drilled pilot holes for the set screws. so where I stand I can drive it tomorow. (got no seat or brakes) but I want to ride it that bad. I'll update pics when I get a camera.

Put smaller wheels on my go kart and it goes even faster and takes off with me on it! Big wheels didn't let me do that. The wheels perform well on snowy roads too. Will post a new video already have 2 with old wheels. The kart wasn't going anywhere due to the snow.

Did you make your with no welding? love the look. i would think that a gas pedal would help a bit.

maybe 30 or 40 percent is welded. Rest is nut and bolt. Got the frame in bad shape looks better eh?

O ya it was very difficult. At one point the camera fell and i didn't know about it(already mentioned). Got a half baked pedal hooked up but not getting full power out of it but i'll fix it!

Yeah a gas pedal would make your kart go just a little bit.;) in january i had a posting in which i asked for motor help. I did get it fixed and to everyone that helped thanks. It was rebuilt by the guy i got it from. it has so much compression that if i pull it before the compression it will life the whole bike up. its purrrsss 2. i just wanted to give credit to those who helped me. but yeah that movie looks tight

Yeah, if you add the gas pedal the kart will be able to go faster because you'll be able to drive with out having to reach back (I think in your video) But anyway looks like fun!!! Hope the snow goes away...

so tomorow i am going to put my new 6.5 on my kart and test it out, much quieter then my old 80's briggs plus 3900 RPM. I will try to post more pics and another vid.

Put my 6.5 HP engine on my gokart and It goes so fast I am no longer able to control the kart!!(still reaching back to the engine for the throttle)And I am not even full throttle yet. I will post more pics when I get a camera. Big jump in speed when u go from 3600 to 3900 RPM. Plus this engine is so much quieter but when I sit and rev it up it sounds so sweet!!!!

Made a new video this morning. The old engine is still on in this video but at least i get full speed out of it because the roads were great! New engine gives me at least 10 MPH more it's crazy fast! The video is in 2 parts to keep the files small.

Well bad news ppl, gotta get a new frame because I crashed my go kart into a road sign. The fault was too much speed and too much dirt on road. Anyway engine is fine so I might rebuild the frame cause the axle bent and the left front wheel is demolished and the spindle is no better.
maybe go with a wider tire in the back (and front for that matter) that will give you less tire spin, but more traction and safety.. just a thought... sorry for the loss though, you know a throttle cable is only $11 at tractor supply center

03-17-2007, 08:36 PM
well i had 1 but it locked up on my thats y i crashed, thanks for the condolences though, the frame really isn't that bad but i gotta make it longer.

Yup that happens. i have a kart and i rode it a few times in the city and took it up north where it was supposed to stay. my bro rode it a few times and i get on it and i try to go through some trail we have a hit a tree and broke a weld on the tie rod. but i mean its all part of the fun. except for me it cost $70 to doa 2" and a 1" weld. and now my bro ran into a diferent tree and cracked the other side one so now its sitting waiting for us to find a welder under $150. Anyways it looked like in the videos like you guys were cramped so making it longer would be cool. dont make it to long so it wont bow.

ya true my neighbour is getting his welder next weekend so i am building another kart from scratch with the same motor and maybe the same gear ratio.

o ya,funny thing though,i started stirring up dust like last monday and now the cops finally come around to check things out!!! LOL
fyi, you really shouldn't ride regularly on a public road, the road you live on looks like private/not state maintained, but you really don't want to deal with that kind of trouble. if the cops are coming around, it usually means they are being called.
I know in ohio, if you are underage and on a gokart/4 wheeler, the punishment can be no liscense until 21. look into it in your area so you know the risk your taking. I'm 27 and married, but my neighbors kids didn't listen to their grandfather(lives across street), and thats what their against now. the cop was doing rounds(our street is a heavily enforced speed zone), wasn't even called on them. but they are sitting in the passenger seat for 5 extra years now.

Looks fun. except the accident didn't sound fun.
can't wait to get me one.
Any thoughts of using a suspension? or is it impractical for hobby grade go-karts.
Kartmofo
04-01-2007, 05:33 PM
well if u really want to get in to it(and take it offroad) then suspension is good
PJG1173
04-02-2007, 09:16 PM
if you want to off road a kart you need a serious suspension and passenger restraints or you will get beat to death and tossed out (speaking from exp). Here is a couple of ideas for suspension karts I came up with since we have no place to ride a regular kart.
