A little pricey. I might have considered this if was reed inducted.

It's a method of valves basically.

3 of my bikes(250r,IT490,IT200) have reed valves. Carbon fiber ones really do help, ALOT. Russ you should try experimenting with different reed setups.

My 3.5hp tecumseh 2-stroke has a bowl carb. Maybe it's only found on the older engines, mine's really old.

Funny you mention it. I have been looking into it but so far have come up empty. Upgrade kits I've seen do not give specs on reeds. Obviously, no one makes them for Lawn-Boys. I need to know widths, lengths, and thickness. I could trim them to fit.
I was looking to modify some to fit my engines.
I just may modify one of my reed plates so that it will accept one of the more popular kits.

Russ, i would go with some cheap Boyesen Carbon fiber reeds, I bet these: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Reeds-carbon-boyesen-CR250_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQ_trksidZp3286Q2em20Q2el111 6QQitemZ170269802025
Would suit it well. Got any pics of what the reed setup is like on the lawnboys? Id say its worth the 20 bucks, you'll probably see some good gains.

Those measurements are in inches correct? The reeds in the link ( same as the ones i have in my 250r) Are roughly 2 inches wide and 2.65 inches long. The only thing i'm worried about is when you cut them there's a chance the fibers could fray. But at 20$ its worth it, i paid 50$ for mine!

Could you roughly estimate how much power increase was realized by upgrading to these reeds? I assume your originals were steel.

Yeah my originals were steel, lets just say after i put them in, the thing would wheelie right off idle, and was very, very CRISP. Great low end increase, with very smooth mid-top end power.

It's on the back burner for now. Twin L-B's have taken priority for the time being.

Cool. One thing i should mention that i forgot. They are dual stage reeds, meaning one is slightly thicker, so one is more for low end and one is for top end. Goodluck
