Thats horribly expensive and doesnt even have infinite amperage control.

may i ask what is infinite amperage for?

Infinite amperage control=a variable dial controls amperage, you can set it at whatever you want in infinitely small increments. IDK what exchange rate works out to from AU $ to U$ but here in the US i can get something like that for $250. Define "cheap stick welder", you might want to look into a bigger better stick welder instead, cheaper and IMO produces a better weld because nearly all of them have infinite amperage and enough power to weld 1/4" plate no problems.

i found a welder cant remember its name it had digital voltage and amperage metres it was about 300us$ do you think this may have infinite amperage control?
it was gas&gasless operation i think 160amp

If it can be set to whatever amp you want 1 to 160 its infinite.

technicaly its not infinite but what he means is that its like a reostat (sp?)

thanks but if i wanted a really cheap one without infinite amps and only could use gassless wire would it still weld ok on thin things and i would use my stick on thicker metal

Yea, the dirt cheap ~100 amp ones can do most anything related to building a cart except welding spindles, you need around 180 amps for that or they will come apart (a 230 amp stick welder is what I recommend)

thanks a lot i will hold off on a mig but i might as well get a cheap one when i need one.
