not really, just rub the metal together fast enough and it will just fuse, welders are for lazy people.

:roflol: That would take a heck of a lot of rubbing!

Haha, let's just say, when removing the driveaxles, the Haynes manual SUCKED :D

You needed a manual to pull out the halfshafts?

Proper technique is always a must for that! :arf:

I'll be doing that soon to my car. I ordered a new complete axle assembly.

Is it bad to weld without long pants/long shirts?

Is it bad to weld without long pants/long shirts?

It's an awesome idea if you want to get hot slag on you/burns etc...

Long pants are a must. Trust me, a piece of slag in your sock blows. I usually wear a t shirt and a leather apron, with the long gloves only a bit of your arm is exposed. Yes it stings a bit, just grow a pair and finish your weld.:roflol:

Real balls weld with nothing but a pair of shorts and a hood.

If you do zinc there's much more spatter as well. Good idea to wear a skull cap.

o.O

Usually only my neck is exposed... Should I get a neck strap or something?

Or how about a fashionable scarf!

:roflol:

I think you'd be just fine with the helmet. It covers most of your head.

I wouldnt recomend a fan when welding because if your MIG welding or even Flux core welding for that matter, Your just blowing away your gas.

with mig maybe but flux isnt affected at all. thats why pros always use flux, more specifically stick welders when doing construction work outside. it burns way faster than the wind can blow it away. with mig though, the gas needs to already be there shielding when the arc is made, and thats where wind matters. mig welding isn't nearly as bad anyway fume-wise, a fan to circulate air is enough for mig. it's the burning flux thats way more carcinogenic.

Yeah ive gotten some nasty burns on my arms from some big chunks melting off..Usually when i do get burnt bad from being an idiot and wearing a cutoff Tshirt i get quite mad and throw things..maybe throw a few foul words in there too

I find it hurts the worst under your arm or if it goes in your shoe...

Or into your sock. Found that one out the hard way too.

I can juggle pieces of red hot metal bare handed. trick is to not let it touch long enough to burn you.

LOL @ Kenny.

Don't think I haven't touched anything hot. I accidentally fell onto a 30 second old welded piece of metal. That scar will be with me forever >< Still healing :D

Then last time a small bit fell into my shoe. Hole where my sock was :D

And now my shoe's slightly melted. Does that tell you anything? :D
