im on a budget and i would like to keep the cost as low as posible but io want good looking welds and dont want to use gas
should i get a flux wire or an arc welder?

Cheapest good welder you can get is a used 200+ amp stick welder with infinite amp control(should be under $100 if you look hard enough, remeber, the heavier the better). Takes a bit longer to learn but much better welds and performance compared to a 100 amp flux core unit.

i found a 160 amp arc for $50 is that enough to weld 1/4'' mild steel?

Its a pretty bad read (about 20 pages) and its only about flux core welders.
