Okay so a buddy of mine crashed his CBR600rr, so we a motor and transmission laying around from it. Another friend of mine has a decent MIG welder, and he has some experience using it.

So we all figured we should build a real fast go kart, but we have no idea where to start. I think we're going to try to adapt the bikes brakes into the go kart some how, since it will need some good brakes.

We were thinking a 2-seater with some sort of suspension would be nice.

Has anyone ever built a kart like this?

My main questions are concerning hubs, wheel bearings and axles, how can I take the chain drive and transfer the power to the wheels?

thanks for any help!!

Using a motorcycle engine will present a couple of problems to get over. One is that the motorcycle chain is a different size than the 'normal' go kart chain. I would check BMIkarts.com and see if they've got some motorcycle chain sprockets so that it will all work together. if not, maybe a jackshaft setup. Or check a local motorcycle shop and see what kind of sprockets they can order.

Why not build a 3-wheeler with two up front. That would make it much easier to adapt what you have to the project. If the rear wheel from the motorcycle is still in good shape that would make it even better.

Thats a good idea. Ill have to think about it, and see what my buddies think.

Seems like it would roll over alot easier that way though.

We have the sprocket for the motorcycle, do you think theres a way to adapt that into some axles or something?

I think it would be more likely to fishtail and a bit more likely to turn over. But that's part of the fun. Rollbars have to be tested too! If you have to have 4 wheel and want to put a live axle setup through the sprocket....you are going to have to weld the sprocket on the axle.

Yeah, thats what I kinda figured, just surfing around the internet and I found this:

http://www.nitrostreet.com/gocart.html

I might have to copy that setup, and just make it a bit wider for 2 people!
