I have a subaru robin ex17. The engine starts up good .idles a little crappy but when i give it gas it dies. MIKUNI CARB

I believe its a carb problem because when i give it gas white mist/smoke shoots out of the carb also every one and a while it shoots out white smoke out the exhaust.

I know very little about go karts any thougts would help.

Thanks

I would give the carb a thorough cleaning first, making sure that you poke out all the holes with a bit of copper wire or guitar wire. Twist ties also work well. You can also use compressed air to try clean the passageways.

You can also boil the carb in lemon juice to try and get all the gas 'varnish out of the carb. Dont boild the rubber seals and gaskets though

when i give it gas white mist/smoke shoots out of the carb...Could you also call it a vapor that quickly disappears? If so, may be a rich condition.
Pic of carb?

Try running the engine with the choke halfway closed. I have to do this when I run my weedeater on fuel with ethanol in it. Not sure why, but it runs really well when I do.

You are describing a very lean condition. Clean and/or open up jets.
Weedie carbs have a fine mesh screen/filter that when clogged will produce said leanout.

It doesn't seem to do it after a tank of 100% gas, no ethanol. Of course the weedeater has had a hard life, several summers of commercial mowing, and property clearing.

^dont run twostroke weedeater with ethanol fuel.

All gasoline in the states has a percentage of ethanol.

might be a stupid question....but did you include the oil in the mix?

Just making sure

What does the plug look like? That could give an indication of what the fuel ratio may be (lean/rich). I agree that it sounds lean.

As for asking about the oil mix, I doubt that would be the problem - my knowledge with small engine 2-strokes is limited, but at least in marine 2-strokes (where my experience comes from), if you don't have the proper oil mix, your engine isn't going to last long at all (minutes, if you're lucky)!

This is true, but you never know, :)

As Russ said, post a pic of the carb

Not all gasoline here in the states has ethanol. Here in Oklahoma, they have to put a sticker on the pump saying it contains ethanol. Some gas stations have signs saying 100% gasoline, no ethanol. That's where I usually fill up. And yes, there is oil in the gas. I am an aircraft mechanic and build racecars on the side. I know engines, and used to work in a machine shop building engines and heads for a living.

You are one of the very, very few and will change shortly.

yeh but grimace can get 100LL for free if he saves all the dregs from the planes he works on:D no ethanol in that

Very true. Long term effects of running leaded fuel are also bad though. Even though it says "Low Lead" it still has more lead in it than the old "Regular" gas had back in the day.

What are the negative effects of avgas? I can prob go and get a bit for free aswel/will have water in it. I think the freeness cancels out the bad tho lol

So... What was the problem?

LOL. That was nothing!

Negative effects of avgas include but are not limited to lead deposits on the spark plugs, some rubber seals are not compatible with avgas, and lead deposit buildup on valves and combustion chambers cause hot spots that will burn holes in parts over time.

Well the problem wasnt the carb like i thought. The acutal problem was that the spark plug was too deep in the combustion chamber. I put some copper washers under the spark plug and the engine started right up.

Thanks for the replys

What is the part number for the plug? I know they make standard reach and extended reach plugs for a lot of applications. You might be ably to get a shorter plug instead of having to shim an extended reach plug.
