Hey, when I try pulling my pull start it will pull out but then be stuck. The only way it will recoil is if I unscrew the engine case. The coil system seems to be slipping away from the actual engine, i.e. it is not the coil itself, but its inability to stay attached to the flywheel. How can I eliminate this problem? nothing seems to be broken, just when I give it a good tug it will just stop and not retract or slip off the flywheel. help?

Need more info. Post pics.
Could be something simple such as lubrication.

thanks for the reply.... here are some pics of the engine and the pull start piece. I have figured out that the pull start itself is fine, but when the metal piece that comes out with a pull slips from the flywheel.

Possibly wrong recoil or worn to point where it no longer engages properly.
Starter cup on engine has provision (3 notches) for starting with rope. It's there in case of recoil failure.
Getting model # will help. See your other thread for locations attachment which I posted.

13505515lser9127aI don't recognize this number. Must be more to it.
All Tecumseh flathead horizontal shaft engines start with H except for Craftsman which would start with 143.xxxx.
Might be partially obliterated especially if repainted.

You can probably get away with filing the edges square again.
