Hey guys,
My name is Brendan and i am from Australia, and down here we love our gokarts and minibikes.
I stumbled across this website and found great help from everyone, but i read an article which said how difficult it is to put a lawn mower engine on a gokart.
At school i do metal work as a subject and i put together a gokart (i bought the rolling chassis) with a 2 stroke (no oil sump) 120cc Victa lawnmower engine. using is in the upright position i added a racing carbi, a 70 tooth cog on the back axel. I used a centrifugal clutch which i bought also. I had to weld a bracket which held the engine in place on the kart in the upright position.
the project only took me about 4 months (because i only had a few classes a week) but the kart went great around the play ground and had plenty of power.
So if you want to put a lawnmower engine on your kart to save some dollars, then it is possible with a little imagination.
if you guys need any help you know i'm here.
