OK, rockstomper that makes more sense. You posted a pic of (of who I now know is your son) crash doing something on the drill press the other day and i figured it was you. I said to myself, "now how in the world does that guy think he's the oldest on here?" hahahaha.

I'm 29 for another couple of months... (cue the Jaws soundtrack) :D

One thing I've noticed about karters is that we're all kids at heart!

soon to be 29, some of you guys i took to be near my age or older. seeing your ages made me think 'do half these guys actually know what they are talking about?. then i remembered we all are introduced to/immersed in things at different ages. though it does seem half of you guys are allowed far more leeway than i ever thought of. as with any advice, take it with a grain of salt and do some research before commiting!

as with any advice, take it with a grain of salt and do some research before commiting! Absolutely.
Some info here is completely bogus.
Exploding flywheels and the use of high octane fuels are just two examples.

I'm 40, with no kids to use as an excuse to play with.
I'm on the left, the youngest in the group of 7 guys.

exploding flywheels are bogus! how do you know????Two years ago I posted a challenge to anyone that could prove to me that a stock (or otherwise unmolested) Briggs, Tecumseh, Kohler, etc. has the ability to detonate it's own flywheel. I still have no takers.
Truth is, these engines cannot possibly spin fast enough to do so. My 40 years+ experience tells me so.
My current engines are designed to run at 3,000 rpm (factory spec) max. I consistently run them at well over 6k.
What is your experience?

are clones included?Unknown, but I "hear" that they have problems as with any other Chinese "knock-offs".

I'm 36. Any given day of the week I can feel 18 or 81...
I love motorized goodies, got a zillion project ideas, and two REALLY GOOD EXCUSES for playing with gokarts-
Excuse #1- Alex, 7 years old
Excuse#2- Garry, 9 years old

That's funny, Mike, when we were PM'ing awhile back, I really thought you were older!!!

I'll say this- Differences aside, it's really nice to see folks of all ages at this, and I especially like to see all you kids that aren't afraid to turn a wrench, get greasy, learn some practical skills, put down the Xbox for awhile.

Cheers!

Unknown, but I "hear" that they have problems as with any other Chinese "knock-offs".

Supposedly ARC did a destructive flywheel test, and at 11,000RPM or so, the MAGNET flew out of the flywheel. Flywheel was still intact.

Absolutely.

Exploding flywheels and high octane fuels are not bogus. If you can utilize the octane via igition timing, compression, or in a 2 stroke, leaning out the high jets for more top end, and in compensation run slightly more oil and higher octane fuel (I'm assuming the fuel does not fully burn, and cools the motor).

It's a mix, heck, there were stock CY motors that came with stock flywheels that shattered on first break in. Thank god for steel recoil shrouds.
