OK, I ordered this from Northern during the fall so I'd be ready for a build... And, for the life of me, I can't figure out the right way to use it. What the heck? Does anyone have ANY ideas on this thing?

It looks to me as if you have to weld it or find some way of holding the main part with the pads, then the one with the holes looks like a lever that moves up or down or something.

Good call on the welding. I just checked the page from northern, and you're right. (http://clickserve.cc-dt.com/link/ddiprod?lid=41000000009404703&pid=13833)

Hmm. I dunno it's still such a weird setup. That arm will need a hell of a return spring. It's kinda funny, the one review for that product is a fellow Austin person. how weird!

Yeah that's the weld on style. Theres also another braking system called airheart brakes which I have on my kart. The caliper "floats" on a bracket so if the disk shifts the caliper goes with it which I think is a good thing.

I'm kinda pissed -- if I can get it to work I'll be happy, but for 40 bucks i want at least some instructions! I'll keep everyone updated with pics. Did you get your's working yet?

I don't know that it will actually be bad, it's just annoying. I guess it's kinda cool that you just weld it on, but I dunno.

What if you welded some mounts to the side of it so that you could remove it if you have to?

jr dragster Tyler

No You dont have to I just use them to keep the key in. Your welcome for the pics.

04-05-2008, 06:43 PM
Hey, Jr, if you make the key a little over a 1/4 inch longer on each side and you weld a bead to the top of each end, you can make the key hold itself in so that you don't have to use collars. Save a bit of weight from being added on.

jr dragster Tyler

yeah I dont feel very confortable with welding keys in I like it the way I have it now.

Well a rolling car is around 4000-5000 then an engine ranges from 1500-4600 then a clutch is 800. you can go to www.nhra.com to learn more or ask me any quesions. But then you need an enclosed trailer to haul the toys and the car. How old are your kids? if your under 9 you can only run 12.90 then once your 13 you can run 7.90 And you will need money for fuel and an oil change every day. Its best to get the kids into buying the fuel and oil to make sure they have an interest.

I think you thought I meant to weld it on each end. If that's so, that's not what I meant. I meant to weld beads on the key itself so theres a ball at each end and it doesn't slide side to side. Not welded to the hub. I'll take a pic of mine in case you're not sure what I'm trying to say. They're still removable and can be changed.

Got mine in the mail and it looks used and there are no instructions. Seems kinda sloppy too. Dang.

05-02-2008, 06:51 PM
the posi-stop disc brake is what I'm reffering to

jr dragster Tyler
05-03-2008, 07:50 AM
My brakes didnt come with any instructions either and the caliper is supposed to be sloppy in the bracket. Its ment to float.

blackleg miner
05-03-2008, 10:04 PM
The heck with it. I'm just gonna weld the posi-stop in place and hope for the best. Seems like very little play, but after messing with it, it feels pretty **** stout and it might lock up a full live axle pretty quick. We'll see.

jr dragster Tyler
05-04-2008, 07:50 AM
Ohh yeah those brakes WILL lock up a solid live axle with 2 large ATV tires on. I hear somwhere there supposed to be able to stop somwhere around 1000 pounds.
