jr dragster Tyler
04-02-2008, 06:03 PM
Russ the tires are 18 x 9.50 wide and 8 inch rim. ironman the battery is for off road racing head lights and neon underglow:drool5: That is a deep cycle battery we bought it for 100 bucks. You may be thinking dude why did you go out and buy a 100 dollar battery. It's becase we bought a new jr dragster gear reduction starter that came with a battery so I got the battery out of the old starter and used it for the kart. And the engine is 6.5 horsepower engine from princes auto same as the blue clone from harbour mine just has a black blower casing which I like better than blue

What are the size of the front tires. I'm thinking of going bigger on mine. Currently I have 13" on the front and the same as you on the rear.

Dang! That is NICE! And I mean it! No offense, but I always imagined that if I made a go kart the first time, it'd literally come out a blob of metal...

where'd you get the steering wheel? what is the clearance for your torque convertor?

jr dragster Tyler
04-03-2008, 06:38 AM
The steering wheel was home made by me. It's 1/4 inch chain wrapped around a plastic bucket. I MIG tak welded all the top links on the chain then removed the semi rigid steering wheel from the bucket and pain-stackinly welded EVERY link top and bottom and middle. About the torque converter isues it cannot mount straight back on the engine because my engine sidecover has a weird litttle knob on it at the rear of it so it cannot be mounted straight back. So we mounted it straight down and theres tons of ground clearense.

Ok update on the kart. We milled the slots on the motor plate today. the plate is 8x10 1/2 thick 6061 T6 alumunum.

so are you bolting plate to you frame than because frame is steel and plate is alumunum..

jr dragster Tyler
04-05-2008, 08:06 PM
yeah bolting.

ironman
04-05-2008, 08:09 PM
you going to be able to use four bolts on it is the motor going to be in the way of the two on the left

jr dragster Tyler
04-05-2008, 08:20 PM
no I can use four 3/8 bolts to hold the plate to the chasis then 4 3/8 bolts to hold down the motor. I love watching the milling.

ok needs some updates here how is that big dollar kart of yours doing where you at on it now?:toetap05:

its all striped down and hanging from my garage ceiling with primer on it. Where painting it with a spray gun. The only downside is we have to go buy one of this big air-water seperaters (air dryer) with is like 80 bucks. Then we need the pellets for it which is 20 bucks.

And the kart is absoulutly awsome The brakes are super good. And I have so much torque with the 6.5 horse and TC its just insane. I can park the front wheels in a ditch and just a bit of gas and walk out of a HUGE ditch. I have a 72 tooth sprocket on the axle.

PS Todays my birthday

Ok guys we made a major screw-up on the painting. Aparently if you want to use that 2 part epoxy paint in a spray gun you also need to use the 2 part primer as well. But we didnt think it would matter so we just used rattle can primer. So now where stuck with painting it with rattle can paint (spray paint) The frame is going to be DeWALT tools yellow. And the steering wheel and a couple other things are going to be a blue paint.

gocartkid
06-05-2008, 07:40 AM
Can't you just media blast/grind off the rattle can primer and start again?

jr dragster Tyler
06-05-2008, 03:07 PM
Yes, but thats alot of work and we dont have a sand-blaster.
