thinking about droping my rear axle sprocket down to a lower sproket size but dont know if clutch will be able to handle it.right now 5 hp b&s motor 10 tooth on the clutch and 45 axle and total tire size 11 inches.what size to do you all think it would be able to handle

you want more speed? i think youll be fine with a 40 but maybe not much more. according to calculaor your around 25 not and a 40 will bring you to about 30. maybe a little less gearing but dont get to low or clutch will burn. if you drive at those speeds long lengths then i think you will be fine.

is your motor box stock or does it have work done to it if it had a a babit barring rod in it, it could take more

What does a conecting rod have to do with loading down his motor a little bit. A stock rod can handle being loaded down. look at snowblowers they get loaded down big time and they dont have to modify things, and alot of snow blowers last up to 10+ years and the motor outlives the actual chasis.

Just depends on if you want more accelaration or more topend.
If accelation then biger sproket smaller clutch.
If topend then bigger clutch smaller sproket.
I run a 62 tooth or some were around in there might want to try a quick change sproket and clutch (were you can cange spring) that will help alot too
